IoT is transforming industries, but integrating new technologies seamlessly remains a challenge. At Tokyo Techies, we tackle these hurdles by delivering custom IoT solutions that boost efficiency and innovation.
From factory maintenance and smart customer data collection to AI-driven education tools and nursing care monitoring, our solutions help businesses streamline operations and achieve long-term success.
In this article, we explore real-world IoT case studies and key insights to help you navigate IoT challenges and unlock new opportunities. Let’s dive in. 🚀
1. Manufacturing Case (1)
The Requirement:
Without any impact on the existing environment, data from sensors equipped with energy-efficient batteries along with temperature, heat, and seismic intensity should be transmitted via BLE to be easily available in a mobile app, to make all factory maintenance works easier to handle using smartphones instead of paper-based data recording.
The Challenge:
Development of a microcontroller board (hardware) that integrates with a LoRA module and a BLE-compatible mobile app to be delivered on a very tight schedule.
The Solution Provided:
A dedicated team of robotics and software engineers jointly developed the hardware and built a mobile app that visualizes IoT device data in just 8 weeks.
The rapid series of prototyping and testing conducted made it possible for the team to achieve time efficiency.
2. Manufacturing Case (2)
The Requirement:
Airweave Co., Ltd.'s IoT app uses sensors on mobile devices to collect sleep data that gets directly recorded on their CRM to be analyzed, thereby improving the value of their products as well as boosting the customer service they provide.
The Challenge:
To develop a mobile app that records the sleep data of the customers who purchased their mattresses, and build a web system for administrators to manage the sleep data collected via an extended CRM.
The Solution Provided:
We developed a native mobile app that was released on both the App Store and Play Store. In addition, we also provided a back-office system based on our Klever framework.
3. Education Case
The Requirement:
A major Japanese cram school required a classroom behavior analysis system to analyze the students’ behavior to be able to improve their teaching process thereby also improving the class performance.
The Challenge:
The customer needed a system to monitor classroom behavior in real-time to optimize student learning - a one-of-a-kind novel idea in the education industry with the use of AI.
The Solution Provided:
Using AI and cloud technology, we developed a perfect hardware and software system that combines "cameras" and "Jetson Nano" for real-time feedback based on "class sync scores" for teachers and administrators.
We also developed an easy-to-use web system for quality control and cost optimization to be able to deploy the hardware in multiple schools in various locations.
4. Nursing Case
The Requirement:
Typically in nursing care facilities, the staff spends a considerable amount of time on manual routine tasks such as monitoring room temperature as well as checking if it's time for a diaper change.
The customer needed a streamlined monitoring and notification system that would help them accurately gauge the right time to provide the care lessening strain and stress both for the nursing staff and the care recipients.
Additionally, they had no tangible way to automatically detect emergencies such as incidents of falls, or cardiac arrests. The only way was to conduct frequent rounds each day and night to reduce this risk.
The lack of software that could consistently perform management tasks, from creating nursing staff work schedules to keeping medical records and other operational tasks was managed only using Excel or paper.
The Challenge:
Our team was requested to provide and deliver a speedy and cost-effective way to verify how effective DX is for the requirements given the nature of their business.
The Solution:
To verify the effects of DX quickly for this client and at an affordable cost, we needed to build and deliver a PoC within six months with flexible staff allocation.
The sensor we built notifies an alert when any unusual occurrence happens, making it possible to grasp information in real-time via smartphones. In addition, we made it possible to link both a nursing medical recording software and a staff schedule generating software that helped turn their operation and management workflow efficiently.
The nursing facility monitoring system solution significantly reduced the tedious work at the nursing facility site with the various IoT sensors and AI technology applied.
