- BA 40: Inferior parietal lobule (Working memory).
- BA 44: Inferior frontal gyrus (Working memory).
- BA 47: Inferior frontal gyrus (Language, working memory).
With high brain activity in five distinct areas of the brain, this indicates in a good workout in a person’s thinking ability and learning skills. Computer programming education will help children sharpen their learning skills, cognitive skills, communication skills, logical thinking skills, and algorithm thinking skills. In the future, their understanding in coding can help them understand how a computer program works, help them start a business or it can lead them to a successful career as a computer developer or programmer.

In a 1991 study on the effects of computer programming, this study found that students with computer programming experience scored 16 percentile points higher on cognitive ability tests than students without.
Stephen Hawking, Theoretical Physicist, Cosmologist, Author, said: “Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you just want to pursue a career in the 21st century, basic computer programming is an essential skill to learn.” Computer programming will help a child’s development of computational, logical, structural, and algorithmic thinking. It sparks inspiration, anticipation, creative thinking and imagination in children. Enda Kenny, politician, Taoiseach, Ireland, said, “Learning to code is learning to create and innovate.”
It is no revelation that we live in an era of great technological development, and the coming generations will be introduced to technology immediately. The children born today are keener on playing on computers and tablets than going out to the playground. While there is concern that excessive computer use can stifle a child’s creativity, learning how to code is an art, which requires children to think outside the box and use creativity. Based on a salary study in 2016 from indeed.com and codementor.io, it is found that the average computer developer salary ranged from $89,000 to $115,000 USD/year.
These salaries will only rise in the future. In one study from Templatemonster.com, they predict by 2020, an increase in salaries by 5% in the US and an increase in salaries by 2.2% in the rest of the world.
Todd Park, Former U.S. Chief Technology Officer, said: “To be prepared for the demands of the 21st century—and to take advantage of its opportunities—it is essential that more of our students today learn basic computer programming skills, no matter what field of work they want to pursue.”
Todd Park may be referring to Artificial Intelligence (AI) as one opportunity that students can take advantage of in the future. There is a fear that when AI advances in the future, that jobs will be lost. When it comes to developers and programmers, their jobs will still be needed, to create, maintain and monitor Al applications.
