This course introduces learners to the fundamental understandings of data science – a rapidly growing field in computer science and engineering in recent years. Through the theoretical lectures and hands-on practices, students will learn how to scrape data from public sources, visualize and analyze data, and apply statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms to predict future outcomes of academic and business data.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will achieve:

  • Python programming skills with advanced tools and libraries for statistical modeling and data science
  • Methods to scrape data from public sources, collect, clean, and process data
  • Knowledge and hands-on practice on statistical modeling, data visualization, data exploration and data analysis  
  • Understanding and experiences on applied Machine learning algorithms (e.g., Linear Regression, K-Nearest Neighbors, SVM,…) for predictive modeling (i.e. predict future outputs of data)
  • Ability to work for data science projects
